Artists in Schools

Artists who wish to join the roster to participate in AIS residencies should plan to attend the AIS Teaching Artists Training Academy at Homer Council on the Arts, Sept 16-18th. This training is likely to be a Alaska State Council on the Arts requirement of all AIS Teaching Artists for the 2012-2013 school year.

For twelve years, Bunnell Street Arts Center has sponsored an independent Artists in Schools program (AIS) following the model set forth by the Alaska State Council on the Arts (AKSCA). Bunnell's AIS program places professional artists approved by AKSCA in K – 12 classrooms for one– or two–week residencies in Kenai Peninsula Borough School District (KPBSD) schools. Currently, all schools south of Ninilchik are eligible for Bunnell's program.

A school participation fee amounting to half of the program's cost is required. Bunnell will award programs on a first come, first serve basis as long as funds are available between October 1 and May 1. It is important to make your school's request early. Previous participation is not a guarantee that an AIS program will be available. Please review the short and simple contract.

AIS programs are available in Theateracting, Filmmaking, Ceramics, Poetry and/or Fiction-writing, Painting, Storytelling, Percussion, Dance, Jewelry, Masks, Printmaking, and Puppetry. See the complete roster of artists for more information about artist instructors.

Bunnell seeks more local artists for its roster. An artist who wishes to join our roster should plan to participate in the Teaching Artists workshops mentioned above. For more information please contact Asia at the address below. Artists may also apply to be in Alaska's Talent Bank by visiting AKSCA's Arts in Education website here.

KPBSD schools may apply to participate in the AIS program by contacting:
